Winter Warriors: Top Skid Loader Attachments for Clearing and Managing Snow
Posted by Lee Padgett on 22nd Nov 2022
That skid steer you rely on for preparing land for planting in the spring, or for debris cleanup during the rest of the year, can be your most valuable piece of equipment come the colder months of the year.
Which are upon us presently. The first snowfalls have already come down across much of the country.
Are you and your crews prepared with the skid loader attachments you’ll need to clear the winter’s worst when it comes down in earnest?
These are the best of them.
1. Snow Buckets
Snow and litter buckets are among the most effective skid loader attachments for clearing and moving snow, as they have the ability to clear, push, consolidate, and even lift - unlike snow pushers.
Snow buckets are lighter-duty than other buckets that have teeth and side cutters that are meant for digging through earth, but ours are still reinforced with wear bars and reinforced sides and cutting edges for extra durability.
Snow buckets are highly utilitarian skid steer attachments that can be used to clear, push, consolidate, and lift snow. They’re also practical for their versatility; at other months of the year, snow buckets can be used for moving and manipulating other light loads, making them all-season attachments. (They’re also configurable with bolt-on cutting edges or tooth bars, increasing their utility at other times of the year.)
They’re also powder coated for longer-lasting protection against corrosion, which is a concern, especially in wet, salty environments.
2. Snow Dozer Blades
Snow dozer blades can’t lift snow the same way a snow bucket can, but they’re still highly useful for quickly and efficiently moving large snow loads out of the way and clearing rights of way - especially angled snow dozer blades.
We sell a variety of snow dozer blades in varying sizes and in 4-angle and 6-angle configurations, as well as angled dozer blades that are remarkably effective at expediently clearing rights of way.
Like our other skid loader attachments, our snow dozer blades are built to outperform, outlast, and will Never Surrender. They are made from top-quality American steel and feature replaceable cutting edges, skid shoes, and bottom trip edge springs.
3.Snow Pushers
Snow pushers are a little bit like a larger, more specialized dozer blade that is better at moving large quantities of snow in a single pass. They’re tops for accumulating snow in big piles, which is necessary when clearing large open spaces like parking lots.
Like our snow dozer blades, our snow pusher attachments are made from high-quality American steel and feature numerous strengthening and value-added features.
For instance, our snow pushers feature thick mold board and reinforced sides for extra strength, and come with adjustable, reversible, replaceable rubber edges that are perfect for a softer touch that won’t tear up pavement like some dozer blades can.
4.Snowblowers
Last but not least, we have skid steer snow blower attachments, available in a wide range of sizes. When you need to clear a right of way - such as a driveway or a loading lane - and need to toss the snow out of the way, snowblower attachments are your best bet.
Our snow blower attachments feature a poly-lined chute and deflector for faster adjustments, offer excellent visibility, are compatible with most skid steer brands, and can throw snow as far as 45 feet - or up to 75 feet with optional high-flow.
Don’t Have One of These - Other Skid Loader Attachments That Can Be Useful in the Winter
While the skid loader attachments mentioned above are about the best you can be equipped with when you need to move a lot of snow and move it quickly, if you don’t have them, you have no need to fear.
You have to use what you have. There are other skid steer attachments that can also be used in a bind for snow removal, and while they might not be as effective, improvising is better than being snowed in and waiting for other crews to come finish what you started.
For instance, bunk sweepers and angle brooms can be used to move light snowfall, especially over paved surfaces. They’re not effective like buckets and snowblowers but if you need to cut a path for a car or for pedestrians, they’re better than nothing.
A manure scraper is another sort of attachment that, while not ideal for moving snow, can be used in an emergency to cut a right of way, even if it does a sloppy job.
Moreover, while they’re not useful for clearing snow, spreader attachments can be useful for distributing sand or salt to provide traction or melt the ice and snow that remain behind - making these useful winter attachments, too.
Prepared with these insights, you can clear whatever snow comes your way this season.
