About Our Different Skid Steer Auger Bits

A skid steer auger drive unit is only as good as the bits you pair with it, and we have produced several different kits of specialized skid steer auger bits here at Spartan Equipment.

HDF Style Bits (Normal Digging)

HDF Style Bits are everyman’s skid steer auger bits, developed for general ground conditions. These are the bits to use if you’re digging through loam, sand, and other loose earth, even potentially lighter clay, although a narrower diameter will fare better since clay is both dense and tough.

These skid steer auger bits are ideal for digging holes for planting fence and sign posts, for drilling prior to laying footings and installing pilings, and much more.

They are available in both round and hex collar configurations, in diameters between 4” and 36”, and are covered by a 1-year warranty.

HDC Style Bits (Tougher Ground Conditions)

HDC Style Bits are the auger bits you want to use if you’re expecting slightly more demanding ground conditions. While they will make quick work of lighter earth, they can also power through compacted soil and heavy clay much more efficiently.

They offer the same basic utility and functionality as our HDF Style Bits, otherwise, but these are available in 6” to 48” diameters. They are also available with either round or hex collars, and are also covered by a 1-year warranty.

Rock Style Bits (Hardest Ground Conditions; Rock)

When you need to muscle through the toughest, most unyielding earth conditions, these are the skid steer auger bits you need to use. Our Rock Style Bits are designed to wrench through the hardest earth, including frozen soil and even fracturable rock. They are also ideal in conditions with extremely dense, compacted soil and clay.

These are a bit different from our other skid steer auger bits. They have replaceable nose cones as well as aggressive bullet teeth (also replaceable) for the most aggressive digging applications and unforgiving earth conditions.

They also feature heavy-duty single flighting and hard-faced outer edges. They are available in diameters ranging from 6” to 36”, and like our other auger bits are configurable with either round or hex collars.

HTF Style Bits (Tree Planting, Digging Holes for Root Balls)

One other specialized type of skid steer auger bit we sell here at Spartan Equipment is for tree planting. We call these HTF Style Bits, and they are wider than the others that we sell here.

Six diameters are available, being 18”, 24”, 30”, 36”, 42”, and 48”, for planting the largest of root balls. They are made with round and hex collars and feature hardened standard wear components.

These specialized auger bits are best used with relatively loose soil conditions and are designed to quickly and efficiently excavate wide holes for root balls, saving time, effort and expense over manual labor.

Beyond the Conventional: Stump Planer Bits

We also produce highly specialized skid steer auger bits that are not for drilling holes, specifically, but for dispatching buried stumps.

These Stump Planer Bits, which are either 10” or 14” in diameter (and which are configurable with either round or hex collars) also feature three tool steel cutters and a starter tip, all of which can be sharpened or replaced throughout the attachment’s life.

They are specially designed with guides that help prevent the attachment from jumping back out of the hole, as well as pilot tips that guide the blades, preventing the bit from getting jammed.

Next to our dedicated stump grinder attachments, these are the best things out there for stump removal, and make it much easier to remove old pesky stumps without the need to hire a dedicated contractor.

Made in America, Not China

As with all of our skid steer attachments, these skid steer auger bits are made in America, not China, and we only use American steel, never cheap, low-grade, low-quality, unreliable Chinese imports.

Anything Else?

These skid steer auger bits are designed for straightforward compatibility with our auger drive attachments, which themselves are designed for compatibility with most major makes and models of skid steer loaders.

Also, most of them are designed with replaceable bolt-on teeth, increasing the bits’ overall service lifespans.
